Wednesdays 1015a.m – 12 Noon followed by lunch.
Oasis is a mid-week meeting which caters mainly for people more mature in age - but without any upper or lower age limit. The vision for Oasis is to provide a place for rest, recuperation, refreshment and fellowship in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
Acorn has an approach to ministry of four ‘W's – welcome, worship, word and works that are actively incorporated in the Oasis approach to church fellowship.
Welcome-
We begin our time of fellowship with tea and coffee, and then move into... Worship-
Praise and worship, then...
Word-
Different approaches to the Word of God, through preaching, discussion, testimony, power point presentations of mission etc...
Works-
We are actively involved in supporting the ministry of Harold & Ruth Menzies who are based in Kitali, Kenya; which also includes Harold teaching young pastors, and Ruth teaching English. This valuable ministry also provides medical treatment for a nasty foot disease called ‘Jiggers’, and a school breakfast programme.
We also have a team from Oasis which visits a local residential care home on a monthly basis to lead a service for the residents.
Our meeting concludes with sharing lunch together.
Each year in May we have a mid-week ‘weekend’ at Minsteracres Retreat Centre near Corbridge, when we mix informal times and outings with worship and teaching sessions. This is a very popular event.
We also plan various trips, and this year visited Beamish Museum, Bede’s World, and had a day out in Northumberland.
Although we have breaks during the summer, we continue to meet by popular choice, and coffee mornings replace the usual meetings.
