Enabling people of all ages & backgrounds to know the fullness of Christ
‘…who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.’ (John 1:14)
- Why Acorn?
The vision of the church is to see God’s work of grace planted (like acorns) all along the coastline, including north and south of Whitley Bay, impacting the lives of individuals, towns and local communities.
We believe that when God plants his work in someone’s life or in an area, even though it might start small, there is incredible potential for growth and for that growth to reproduce itself. Over the years the church has been inspired by the following verse from the Old Testament:
‘They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
For the display of his splendour’ (Isaiah 61:3)
At Acorn CC we have 5 core values and believe that all 5 should be strongly evident in the life of a believer (and a local church) for a balanced and effective Christian life:
Our aim is to create relevant corporate worship settings which help people to worship God and to enjoy his presence together. Worship of course is far more than music – every thought or action can be transformed into an act of worship when you do it for the praise, glory, and pleasure of God.
Our aim is to give people a variety of opportunities to connect with each others in small group (& other settings) outside of the main services. We want to give people every encouragement to engage in fellowship, friendship, fun and mutual support.
Our aim is to be a resource in helping people respond to Christ’s life long invitation - “Follow Me”. We believe that spiritual growth is about becoming more like Christ and as a result living in the freedom and abundant life that God intends for us. We want to help people in this incredible adventure, recognising the need for patience, commitment, and intentional focus.
Our aim is to encourage each person to use his/her unique God given talents and time to serve his purposes in and through the church and out into the community. We want to help people develop a heart for serving others with growing effectiveness and purity of motivation - for each person to experience the pleasure and fulfilment that comes by serving as part of a team.
Our aim is to relevantly demonstrate the Grace of Christ and to present the Truth of Christ to those around us and in particular to unreached people (groups) in Whitley Bay and the coastal strip between North Shields & Blyth. We also recognise that God has not called Acorn CC to go it alone concerning this and that there is added blessing and effectiveness when working with other churches.
